I was recently talking with a friend who didn't know about MoveOn.org, and I was a little surprised. As a result I am posting a little more info here to try and spread the good MoveOn word. Though you can find a much better description of who they are and what they do on their website, I wanted to share my personal experience as a member.
I first learned of MoveOn.org during the 2008 presidential race. While surfing the net, I stumbled across their site and I was intrigued. They seemed to share many of my concerns about the way our government was handling (or in most cases mis-handling) extremely important issues such as the environment, health care, education and the war among others. I was impressed, so I signed up, and I'm glad I did.
MoveOn makes it very easy to voice your opinion and get involved in many positive ways. They are extremely efficient at grass-roots level movements, and have grown quite influential with a rather large member base. There are also many ways to volunteer, and work along side the many dedicated members at MoveOn.
It couldn't be any easier actually. After you sign up, just check your email and decide whether or not you would like to get involved. If yes, a couple clicks of the mouse can sign a petition, or give you direct phone lines to your congressmen and women, so you can let them know what you think. If the email does not strike your fancy, just delete it and forget about it. It's that simple.
MoveOn doesn't play party politics, but rather fights for across the board progressive action. I strongly urge everyone to check them out. They truly are fighting the good fight!
